I came up with the Cross-T-Squared after twenty plus years as a T-Bar installer, and contractor. Just as lasers, screwpoles and rolling scaffolds are now standard equipment for installing T-bar ceilings, the Cross-T-Squared is the new "must have" for all T-Bar installers. We have already sold hundreds of them to installers around the US, Canada, the UK, and even Australia.
What is a Cross-T-Squared?
It is the fastest way to align your perimeter tees at a perfect 90 degree angle (perpendicular) to the main runner, before you pop rivet them to the wall angle. Weighing less than 1/2 lb., this solid aluminum tool has no moving parts to wear out or break, and it fits easily into your tool belt. The hard anodized finish protects the mains and tees from scratches, and the magnets attach it securely to the grid for hands-free use. All of the tools edges are rounded, which makes sure that you don't break your cut line (jet line or fishing line).
How does the Cross-T-Squared work?
Simple. The tool has two perpendicular grooves which align the tee to the main runner. You simply set the tool up to the main, where the first magnet grabs on, and then slide the perimeter tee left or right until it the second magnet grabs on. That's it! Now you simply clamp the end of the tee to the wall angle, remove the Cross-T-Squared, and set it on the next tee, then punch and rivet your clamped tee.
No more time lost to pulling your tape out a hundred times a day, to set your tee spacing.
No more "crooked tees" for your boss/foreman to get upset about.

How does it work on 15/16" and 9/16" systems?
To keep T-bar installers from needing one tool for each system, we designed the tool to work with 15/16" one one side, and 9/16" on the other. Both sets of alignment groves are cut on a laser driven CNC machine, which is computer controlled to maintain our demanding tolerances. The alignment slots are cut to match the manufacturers' tolerances (ASTM C635). Even with this dual system design, the tool is incredibly light, at 7.5 ounces, and very easy to keep track of, due to the durable red anodizing. You can easily see it from across the room.

Can the Cross-T-Squared work vertically on soffits, too?
The top edge of the tool is also made at a true 90 degree angle to the long alignment slots. Dramatically speed up your soffit building by using the Cross-T-Squared to plumb your tees from the top down, or the bottom up. Unlike torpedo levels which you must hold to read, and then also clamp your tee, this tool stays in place with its magnets. Set it on the tee, and move left or right until the tool edge rests against the wall angle, then clamp and pop rivet.

How about angled ceilings?
This suspended ceiling tool makes cutting in an angled or radius wall go as fast a straight wall. By eliminating the guesswork, the eyeballing, and the repetitive measuring, angled walls are nothing to get excited or worried about. This is one of the features that T-bar installers like the best.

How much time can I save?
The Cross-T-squared will save you time whenever you are cutting in the tee wall. It works on straight, angled, and radius walls equally. When we started comparing using the tool to not, most T-Bar installers saved 30 minutes a day on cutting in. That time can then spent running more field grid, and increasing overall production. Since the Cross-T-Squared spaces your perimeter tees accurately, tile installation goes quicker as well. Especially if you are using tegular or reveal edge tiles.
So let's do some calculating...
Based on just one T-bar installer, saving 30 minutes a day, comes to a total of 2.5 hours per week. I know wages vary from area to area, and union vs. non union, so let's say your being paid $30.00 per hour. That comes to $75.00 per week. Let's multiply that by 50 weeks, allowing you two weeks vacation time annually.
That is $3,750.00 of straight labor, add the company's labor burden of 30%, (taxes, insurance, unemployment, and FICA that your boss has to pay in) that is another $1,125.00. Add those two totals together, for a grand total of $4,875.00, per man, per year. We all know that the best way to keep working is to make the boss happy, and saving him a few bucks on every job is definitely one way to do that.
PS: If you work by the square foot, the time and money saved goes into your pocket. Just a thought, since I always preferred to work by the foot.
